The Unauthorized Investigator's Guide to
The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints

Lesson 4

Obey and Honor the Law

The Missionaries Will Teach...

Latter-day Saints believe in obeying and honoring the laws of their own nation, regardless of which nation it is.  The Church teaches them to be good citizens and active in their communities and in the political process.  But we emphasize that they are doing so as concerned citizens, not as official representatives of the Church.

Some Additional Thoughts...

This is a principle that Mormons tend to be quite enthusiastic about. It is one that I strongly disagree with.  Thoreau said it best, "It is not desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right. The only obligation which I have a right to assume is to do at any time what I think right."
